Did you watch the royal nuptials on Saturday, as millions of others around the world did? I was watching with great interest to see what the bride would be wearing.
My first thought as Meghan Markle exited her limousine was, "Hmm. Not very glamorous." The more I looked at her gown, the more enamored I became. Ms. Markle, now known as the Duchess of Sussex, is not a blushing ,naive young bride as was her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. This is a woman who is very self-confident and very sure of her choices. She owned the simplicity of that Givenchy gown. It was almost as if she was saying, "I don't need yards of lace, or sequins, or any other adornment to look and feel fabulous."
And, what I loved most about her gown was the bateau neckline. This is a woman who knows her body and knows how to dress her body to accentuate one of her best features. A bateau neckline works best on women with a strong shoulder line and a long neck - and the Duchess has both! Isn't it wonderful to see a women look sexy and glamorous without exposing her chest or her rear end?
Meghan wore a Stella McCartney gown to the evening reception - and that gown showed off her shoulders as well with a stunning halter neck. Both gowns were white and both gowns were the epitome of simplicity. This woman is not afraid to follow her instincts and own her style. She is well on her way to becoming a style icon. I can't wait to see more!
