The Color of the Year 2018
Ultra Violet

The Pantone Color Institute is the leading authority on color trends and every year, designers in all industries look to Pantone for guidance in color forecasting. This year, Pantone has selected Ultra Violet as the 2018 color of the Year. Leatrice Eisemann, Pantone's Color Expert, says this about Ultra Violet:
"A dramatically provocative and thoughtful blue-based purple, Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.
Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.
Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today's over-stimulated world."
How does this translate to fashion and specifically, clothing choices? Adding Ultra Violet to your wardrobe will project an on-trend vibe and can be used in amounts large or small, depending on your seasonal palette and personal preferences. This is a cool shade of purple so if you are a Winter or a Summer, you can wear as much of this shade as you want. Autumns and Springs will want to choose their shade of purple carefully.
If you love the color, and it looks good on you, go for it. Look for tops in Ultra Violet that can be worn with black, navy or gray bottoms. Perhaps this is the year to have some fun with accessories and add an Ultra Violet handbag or pair of shoes to your wardrobe. How about an Ultra Violet nail color?

If you are unsure, add a print scarf with some Ultra Violet in the print and see how you feel when wearing the scarf.

If your personal coloring is warmer (Autumns and Springs) use this shade of purple sparingly. Your better purple is a reddish purple, such as Aubergine. All shades of purple will be available this season so look for smaller items like accessories in your best purple to add an on-trend vibe.
